Common Holds
Overview
Basic Hold
Let the fingers rest on the anterior part of the neck. Coming in from the side and having soft hands with a light touch often works best. It can be quite a tricky place to be touched for many people, so keep negotiating the space and checking the client is ok.
Variations
Alternative Hold: Hyoid
You can use the forefingers to make a specific relationship to the hyoid.
Treatment Notes
This hold gives access to a number of structures - the hyoid, the thyroid, the carotid sheaths including the vagus and blood flow to and from the brain, and the anterior neck muscles. It is a very common region for people to feel blocked and choked. Using this hold skilfully will often support expression of stuck stories and emotions.
